Fun with fungi. Joint meeting with the Mycological Section of the Yorkshire Naturalists Union. Some members of the Mid Yorkshire Fungus Group will also be present. We will go for a foray (walk to find fungi) each day starting at 9.45am. We will examine the fungi in the late afternoon and evening based at the Methodist Church Hall, Settle. Come for a morning, a day, an evening or for all the sessions.

Fungus Foray: Meet at Settle Meth Church Hall ready to go to Hesley Moss SD 784 603 (Park SD 785 601). Later in the day we will visit Hollow Gill Wood SD 803 503 and maybe later try the moorland at Rathmell Common SD 775 616 Please contact J Allinson before coming to confirm details of site visits.
WELLINGTON BOOTS, are vital for Hesley Moss and hiking boots recommended for the woodland site.

A wood/plantation with oak and pine, owned by the National Park which is getting local Nature Reserve status. Birdwatching trip to Morecambe Bay, for wintering wildfowl and shorebirds, with Gerald Light. Sites visited will probably include Heysham and Hest Bank. Meet at Settle swimming pool car park to share transport, and bring waterproofs, boots or stout waterproof shoes and packed lunch.

If you have not been on a conservation work day before, it is doubly necessary that you contact John beforehand for insurance purposes.

Work will involve tree planting, checking recently planted saplings and sycamore scrub control. Contact John Osborne 07967 971523 for details. Bring waterproofs, boots, packed lunch, and make sure your tetanus vaccination is up to date.

Guided Walks in the the Yorkshire Dales, on various natural history topics. Run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Events for Summer 2002 Although aimed primarily for tourists, These are very good value for money for locals too.. and we don't have to travel far to get to the walks.
Natural History and other courses at Malham Tarn Field Centre.(e.g Grasses, algae, mosses, moths, and many others). Malham is 7 miles from Settle. It is usually possible to attend these courses as a day student. Highly Recommended as a holiday. See Also Courses at Kindrogan Field Centre in Scotland
