Climate change Part 1: Past and future impacts on the landscapes and drainage of the Yorkshire Dales Illustrated presentation by Dr Aidan Foley.
Climate change is one of the principal forces controlling the existing landscapes and surface (and sub-surface) drainage across the Yorkshire Dales. From the deposition of the Carboniferous limestone in warm tropical seas, to the awesome erosive power of glaciers over the last several ice ages, the influence of climate on the Dales is both ubiquitous and profound. This talk will place the modern landscape within its geological and climatological contexts, and conclude with a short review of predicted impacts of ongoing climate change in the region.
